p2p politics

Julian complains that he can’t find a copy of the debate on any p2p network he’s looked for. Does anyone know of one?

reporting the debate

I saw only part of the debate last night, but the part I saw was consistent with this Gallop poll indicating Kerry won the debate, 53% to 37%. Yet according to “US Press”: the debate was a tie.

Was it a tie? Or is it just impossible for the press to appear anything but “neutral”?

Update: Here’s a report from The Times (UK) with a nice summary of different views, some neutral, others not.

EFF/CIS victory

logo2.gif

And neither did we.

EFF and CIS received news of a huge victory yesterday in the Diebold case. In an opinion released yesterday, the Court held 512(f) of the DMCA could be used affirmatively against the company for its baseless claims of copyright infringement brought against the Swarthmore students who posted memos from Diebold on the net. These are the same amazing students who then launched the Free Culture Movement.

Rumsfeld's oath and the forgotten constitution

Bruce Ackerman has an interesting piece in the American Prospect about the oath Rumsfeld asked the civilians sworn to review the judgments reaching by the Guantanamo Bay commission: “Does each one of you swear that you will faithfully and impartially perform according to your conscience and the rules applicable to the review filed by a military commission all the duties incumbent upon you as a member of the review panel, so help you God?” “God” is central; the Constitution is forgotten. A metaphor for too much these past few years.

iPac: bravo

A group of good sorts have put together a PAC to frame and push IP-related policies. Here’s the site with the list of candidates they’re supporting. Cool if they could find some marginal sorts who have been totally obtuse about these issues to target as well.
