Does "Why Michael Moore Hates America" (one of the movies featured at the linked film festival) target someone of more importance than Moore? I predict that Fahrenheit 9/11 will largely disappear from the minds of those who support the "anyone but Bush" idea regardless of who takes office next year. F911 will either be seen to have served its purpose (kick Bush out of office; elect Kerry to replace Bush), or failed in its purpose (Bush continues his presidency for another term). Movies that talk about the system of organization like "The Corporation" seem a much more interesting target for rebuttal to me--the messages of "The Corporation" will last well beyond the US election. But doing an adequate job of rebutting requires much research that is costly and time-consuming to produce.

I found "The Corporation" to be far more compelling than any Michael Moore movie I've seen (and what Moore contributed to "The Corporation" was important, but the wide range of interviews helped make this movie important). I'd be curious to hear what objections are raised about "The Corporation".

Conservative media and media crit tends to be oligarchical, backed by billionaires and their foundations.

Sort of like liberal political organizations.

If the writers and actors were as bad as the graphic designers, I think this film festival may give credibility to the concept of a "liberal media."

And, no, I don't believe in a liberal media along the lines of how the term is normally used. While the media's ability to control how a story is reported is quite powerful and open to abuse, I don't think there's always a need to shoot the messenger. Besides, if you really like your media biased, its well-known which outfits lean left, and which lean right. If you want more neutral views, you may need to get your news from several sources (at least that's my trick).

Even the lack of proclaimed Republicans in Hollywood (aside from Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ben Stein, how many can you name?), isn't proof of a large-scale conspiracy. However, it is something to bear in mind when the quality of right-leaning films and left-leaning films is so different.

Conservative criticism of what they call the “liberal media” can be a lot of fun — it’s lively and often funnier than left criticism aimed at the right. One interesting thing, though — while there’s lots of grassroots independent media coming from the left, there’s relatively little from the right. Conservative media and media crit tends to be oligarchical, backed by billionaires and their foundations. Curious to see if this starts to change.
