I received this letter from the McCain/Palin campaign today in response to our call for them to support “open debates.” Wonderfully progressive and right from these candidates on the Right.

That’s really fantastic, but what I really want to see in the debates is openness that involves the third-party candidates as well. We’re never going to be able to break the stranglehold on American Politics that this two-party system has created if we can’t get exposure for the alternatives.
One of the common bright spots does seem to be that both presidential candidates are for political reform (without perfect records on the issue).
Awesome!
This is all well and good, but like Jeff said makes no mention of other presidential candidates participating in debates. Something tells me that is where McCain as well as Obama will fall short.
Considering the two major parties like having control over the debates and limiting mainstream access to all the options Americans have, I don’t expect to see real change any time soon.
Believe me, it’s a topic I would very much welcome being wrong about! 🙂
McCain has three of the biggest opportunities given to him which he is simply not taking advantage of (he will lose if he doesn’t):
1. The root causes of the wall street meltdown as detailed in the Fox Special: ” Saving Our Economy: What’s Next”
2. The $700 billion going to foreign countries to buy oil, a huge part of which can stay here if drilling is done in Anwar, offshore and the Rockies. Imagine the jobs and wealth that can be created with this, not to mention the huge plus for national security and that 75% of the public support drilling.
3. Barak Obama’s class warfare rhetoric and wanting to tax business more – small and big – when it is they who create the jobs that fuels the economy.
I LIVE IN CHICAGO AND AM FAMILIAR WITH THE POLITICS THAT GO ON HERE BARACK PROMISED ALOT IN CHICAGO DID HE DELIVER SURE HE DID JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER POLITICAL PERSON IN CHICAGO. SEE YOU HAVE TO LIVE HERE TO BELIEVE WHAT GOES ON . IT IS SO CORRUPT YOU WOULD THINK THE MAFIA WAS RUNNING IT. ASK ME IF ANY EVERY DAY CITIZEN SEEN WHAT ANY OF THE MONEY BARACK GOT IN PORK SPENDING SEEN . NO BUT I CAN TELL YOU WHO DID. EVERYONE WHO WANTED MONEY AND WORKED ON HIS CAMPAIGN AND HE OWED A FAVOR TO. LETS SEE LOOK UP KENNY D SMITH HE WAS ONE OF BARACKS ORGANIZERS FOR HIS CAMPAIGN FOR SENATE ALONG WITH HIS WIFE. 100,000 GIVEN TO THM TO BUILD A GARDEN TO BE BUILT . NO GARDEN BARACKS RESPONCE BASICALLY THEY NORMALLY DO GOOD WORK. ALSO HOW ABOUT THE SWEET DEAL HIS WIFES HOSPITAL GOT AND THEN SHE RECIEVED A PROMOTION BUT TO HERE BARACK SAY IT SHE WAS DUE FOR THE PROMOTION. IF YOU THINK THATS BAD COME TO CHICAGO.I DO NOT KNOW HOW IT GOES ON IN OTHER CITIES BUT OUR GREAT LOSER OF A MAYOR AND ALDERMAN VOTE EVERY COUPLE YEARS TO GIVE EACH OTHER RAISES WHILE ALL OTHER PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY WORK HAVE TO WAIT WHILE THEY DECIDE WHEN THEY THINK IT SHOULD HAPPEN. BARACK AND DALEY ARE TWO OF A KIND BIG GOVERNMENT WITH PEANUTS FOR THE WORKING CLASS . EVERYONE THAT WANTS TO VOTE BARACK IN I WILL PRAY FOR YOU BECAUSE AFTER HE LEADS US INTO A DEPRESSION AND TELLS US ITS EVERYONE ELSES FAUGHT DON’T ACT LIKE YOU NEVER VOTED FOR HIM. AND A QUESTION TO EVERYONE OUT THERE ASK YOURSELF WHY ALL THE ARCHIVES ABOUT BARACK OBAMA IN THE PAPERS FROM 1992 TIL 2003 IN MOST CAN NOT BE OPENED. TRY SOME OF THE PAPERS. LIKE THE CHICAGO DEFENDER, THE SOUTHWEST HEROLD , THE DAILEY HERALD SEEMS A LITTLE FUNNY TO ME!!!!!!!!!
