CC heroes: Revver

At the iCommons iSummit in Rio, Revver demonstrated its technology. This company is a poster child for alternative ways to get creators paid. Videos are distributed under a CC license. At the end is an ad bug. When the video is played, the creators get paid. The creators of the video below (geniuses) have earned many many many thousands of dollars for this video. Watch, think, enjoy: (Innovation brought to you by the Neutral Net). (I’m experimenting with the feature of Revver that feeds revenue back to the syndicator. Anything I get will be donated to charity.) (And Michael is my new hero — thank you for the poster!)

    What is required to play this video?

  2. poptones says:

    ROTFL

    Damn, I cut myself on your sharp wit

  3. three blind mice says:

    it appears to be a quicktime video Peter Rock.

    (and it shouldn’t be posted the front page. [more inside], with a descriptive label to what is being linked to, is your friend professor.)

  4. Lawrence, I made a poster frame for you.
    Use this source if you’d like…

    <object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab&quot; height="257" width="240">
    <param name="src" value="http://homepage.mac.com/darius/journal/7.2.2006/poster.gif"&gt;
    <param name="href" value="http://media.revver.com/broadcast/27335/video.mov/16505"&gt;
    <param name="target" value="myself">
    <param name="autoplay" value="false">
    <param name="controller" value="true">
    <embed src="http://homepage.mac.com/darius/journal/7.2.2006/poster.gif&quot; width="320" height="257" href="http://media.revver.com/broadcast/27335/video.mov/16505&quot; target="myself">
    </object>

    Note: Unfortunately newer browsers have left this feature out and require the movie itself to contain the poster frame. (The movie is locked or I would have wired it in for you.)

  5. You’re welcome Lawrence, thanks for all you do for community media.
    Please say hi to Elaine for me, (we used to work together).

    PS. Congrats on MS Office integration for ccPublisher, It sure would be great to see it put into iLife.

  6. Greg says:

    Just a stranger to say hi.
    P.S.
    cc keeps coming up

  7. TomS says:

    I was amazed at all of the press that this video received. Incredible example of viral marketing. Not sure who benefits though. They have a great YouTube video on their site about the dangers of swallowing Mentos and drinking Diet Coke.
